Description	The goal of the REALIA (Rich Electronic Archive for Language Instruction Anywhere) Project is to develop and implement a searchable digitized media database which will provide instructors of modern languages with teaching resources accessible via the Web. The REALIA Project seeks to increase through collaboration the quantity of high-quality teaching and learning materials by providing a respected venue for media projects that otherwise might not be shared or published. This Website showcases an image database prototype for use by the educational community. Faculty and student projects are featured. Foreign language fonts used in metadata include Japanese. The site freely shares technical information about metadata maps, standards, as well as information regarding the origins and structure of the collaborative and its working groups.

Project Support	The REALIA project depends on the contribution of many different people, including faculty, librarians, IT Staff and students from the four consortia (NITLE, Associated Colleges of the Midwest, Associated Colleges of the South, Great Lakes Colleges Association). The initial finding came from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Woodruff Foundation. The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has also generously supported this initiative. Contributions are sought: "Our current target languages are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, but we will consider submissions in other less commonly taught languages. Cultural content is The REALIA Project's highest priority. Photographic quality, while important, is secondary to pedagogical value, which is the primary selection criterion for each foreign language editorial board."
